Humphree integrates Interceptor steering to high speed ferries to significantly improve fuel savings and course keeping for waterjet propelled vessels. The traditional means of steering with redirecting the thrusting force from the waterjet and have the autopilot to constantly correct this to keep a steady course can now be significantly improved with an assisting Interceptor steering. Not only the thrust losses from the redirection of the waterjet is cancelled but the controls of the vessel is improved due to a more direct response to the steering.

The interceptor will provide a steering force immediately once deployed and give the waterjet propelled vessel a much straighter course compared to its usually snaky track. The obvious and proven benefits in speed increase, fuel savings and savings on waterjet steering gears are appreciated by the Commercial operators. In Navy applications the tactical diameter and advance is of strategic importance and will also be improved.

What does Ultimate do?

Auto List & Proactive Roll Control
The boat is on a straight course and AutoList is keeping it at a list angle of zero. Roll Control compensates for wave disturbances.

Proactive Turn Entry
Allows the boat to bank naturally in the begining of the turn. Without this feature AutoList is trying to achieve a list angle of zero until a turn detect occurs which usually feels a bit unnatural. The effect of this function can be adjusted in a menu to achieve the feeling that the boat builder or driver prefer.

Coordinated Turn
Coordinated Turn improves both the comfort and the turning performance of any boat. It is a benefit that you can adjust the desired gain for different speeds in a menu because then the driver always get the exact same effect every time turning with the boat. As we use the rudder signal as input we are robust against disturbances from waves, compared to the competitors who don’t use the rudder input.

Proactive Turn Exit
Detects that the boat is in a turn but that the driver is about to end the turn and go to a straight course. By reactivating AutoList as early as possible at the end of the turn, the interceptors can compensate for the new wind direction without any delay after the turn. Without this feature, the boat will usually list for a few seconds before AutoList has made its compensation of the interceptors after the turn.
