Vessel Motion Monitoring

Vessel Motion Monitoring

Operating

When operating a fleet of vessels or responsible for the crew and passengers on board a vessel, you need to know what is happening on board and where the vessel has been. Or you want to be able to go back after an accident, to see what speed the vessel was doing and how high the impact was?

HUMPHREE Vessel Motion Monitoring (VMM) offers live data of vessel motions for effective vessel operation. In the display, a number of valuable parameters such as seasickness index, average/peak impacts and heave at specific locations in the vessel show what is happening onboard. With possibilities to measure and record all data, the operator can minimize fatigue on crew, passengers and vessel during transit and landing/docking.

Monitoring

The Standard system features high frequency accelerometers located in a Humphree Sensor Unit which accurately measures vessel motions in all axes. The Control Panel clearly displays momentarily readings in a large colour display.

Transit

During operation transit mode will indicate how the sea condition is affecting crew and passengers onboard. With an illustrative seasickness index in the control panel along with live hull impact data the operator is given valuable information of current sea state and if actions should be taken to ensure a safer and more comfortable ride. For more advanced measuring additional sensors can be added to increase the number of measuring points onboard.

Landing

When approaching a landing/docking scenario, it is crucial to review the surrounding conditions in order to ensure a safe operation. Having an additional Landing Sensor Unit located at the bow, the system will provide data of current vessel heave and horizontal impact accelerations, all to give the operator a better judgment for best possible vessel operation.

Recorder

A recorder can be added to the VMM system which will record vessel motions. It is possible to store data up to 2 years for observing a vessel during a warranty period. The recorder stores all data available from the sensors on board. Depending on sensor(s) following variables are available. Recorded data can be plotted in Google Earth to see the vessels operation.

Analysis

With recorded vessel data, thorough analyses can be done at a later stage and can for example be used to evaluate and ensure the safety of the vessel’s operations. Humphree can offer a service to analyze the data recorded to bring out what has happened at a particular time or study a fleet of vessels. The analysis will be sent to the customer as a report. All data is of course handled with discursion and not used or handled out to any other part.
